Writer's Block, You are dead to me now.

Too long have I whined and dined with you, when all you leave me with is a broken spirit and empty pages.

My friends all tell me I should have dumped you long ago - five minutes, five paragraphs, five pages at a time. And yet you persisted. Wooed me with promises of productivity...later, that is. Breathed those words of unworthiness into my ear: you couldn't, you can't, you won't.

I am here to say: yes, I could. Yes, I can. Yes, I will.

And yes, I have - kicked you to the curb, with thousands of words at a time. With my trusty timer, trusty cherry caramels, and even trustier friends, I will leave you once and for all and move on to a greener pasture, where the words may be terrible at first glance, but they are the promise of hope and something better.

We can't be lovers. We can't even be friends. I don't need you anymore, baby. So I will leave you with one final Hi-YAH...

...to say that I hit my Golden Coffee Cup goal and kept right on going.

(Today's goal: another 5K...are you in?)

  1. Hee, hee! Love this post. And yes, I'm in, though I'm not sure I'll make the 5k mark today. Too many errands before the kids are home from school.

But, I'll work this! Love how my verification word is squables--that's exactly what I'm working on!!

    Squabbles and conflict, baby!

  2. Love it - but he wil try and kiss back up to you - beware! They always try and return :)

  3. Great post! Found you through Hip Writer Mama.
Wished I lived in Seattle...the KidLit drink nights sound fun. Perhaps I need to start one in Santa Barbara? Hmmm. I think I will...thanks for the inspiration!

  4. You're right, Shelli! We've been frenemies for a long time, WB and I. I think this is one of those "you can slay the beast if you know its true name" things. Write through the bad stuff, say Kirby Larson and Randy Powell. The biggest fear for me is taking the first step.

Glad you stopped by, Patty! Santa Barbara sounds so lovely after a few wks of rain here.

  5. Hope you're writing is going well! I'm writing, but not at the pace I'd like to. The conflict is getting rather complicated...

  6. BTW, thanks for the info about the allergies. Very helpful.

  7. Go, Holly, go, go, go...You can do it. I've done like 7,356 words alrady. Come on catch up with me. Hurry...hurry...type, write, type.

Okay, I'm lying abouot the 7,356 words but I'll be doing it tomorrow. I will. So you have to today.

  8. Oh my gosh! 7K! Pant, pant. I've been dealing with some tricky scenes today and admittedly am feeling the pressure from ol' Writer's Block, who I think is a mite bit insulted by my post today. Though I think it's possible to make it to 4, and if I lose a little bit of sleep...who knows. If I hit my goal for today, I will be roughly at the midpoint of the novel. Wherplash!
