rgz LIVE Night Bites, October 17th: Gothic Bites!

My book is more goth than gothic, but this is my night! Yay!!! Tonight at the readergirlz forum, 6pm PDT/9pm EDT!

Holly Cupala: A Light That Never Goes Out
Debut novelist, Holly Cupala’s tentatively titled, A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT, chronicles seventeen-year-old Miranda’s unexpected pregnancy and her gripping journey to navigate the labyrinth of her bad-girl sister Xanda’s life, unravel the mystery of her death, and free herself in the process. Recipient of a 2006 SCBWI Work-In-Progress Grant (as Brimstone Soup), to be published in 2010.

HOLLY CUPALA is the newest readergirlz diva. Her first novel just sold in a thrilling two-book deal and will be available in 2010. She lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband and daughter and is currently writing a second YA novel.

Christopher Golden: Soulless
Clasping hands in an impenetrable grip, three mediums call to their spirit guides as the audience looks on in breathless anticipation. The mediums slump over, slackjawed -- catatonic. And in cemeteries surrounding Manhattan, fragments of old corpses dig themselves out of the ground....

The spirits have returned. The dead are walking. They will seek out those who loved them in life, those they left behind...but they are savage and they are hungry. They are no longer your mother or father, your brother or sister, your best friend or lover.

The horror spreads quickly, droves of the ravenous dead seeking out the living -- shredding flesh from bone, feeding. But a disparate group of unlikely heroes -- two headstrong college rivals, a troubled gang member, a teenage pop star and her bodyguard -- is making its way to the center of the nightmare, fighting to protect their loved ones, fighting for their lives, and fighting to end the madness.

CHRISTOPHER GOLDEN is the award-winning, bestselling author of such novels as Wildwood Road, The Boys Are Back in Town, Of Saints and Shadows, and the Body of Evidence series. He has cowritten a number of novels and comic books set in the worlds of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. There are more than eight million copies of his books in print. He lives in Massachusetts with his family.

Annette Curtis Klause: Blood and Chocolate
Vivian Gandillon relishes the change, the sweet, fierce ache that carries her from girl to wolf. At sixteen, she is beautiful and strong, and all the young wolves are on her tail. But Vivian still grieves for her dead father; her pack remains leaderless and in disarray, and she feels lost in the suburbs of Maryland. She longs for a normal life. But what is normal for a werewolf?

Then Vivian falls in love with a human, a meat-boy. Aiden is kind and gentle, a welcome relief from the squabbling pack. He's fascinated by magic, and Vivian longs to reveal herself to him. Surely he would understand her and delight in the wonder of her dual nature, not fear her as an ordinary human would.

Vivian's divided loyalties are strained further when a brutal murder threatens to expose the pack. Moving between two worlds, she does not seem to belong in either. What is she really--human or beast? Which tastes sweeter--blood or chocolate?

ANNETTE CURTIS KLAUSE is head of children's services at the Aspen Hill Community Library in Maryland. Born in Bristol, England, she now lives in Hyattsville, Maryland, with her husband and their cats. When she was young, Annette's daddy sat her on his lap and told her the plots of the best old horror movies. This seems to have made a strong impression. Annette Curtis Klause holds a B.A. in English literature and an M.L.S. from the University of Maryland, College Park, but when excited, she still has a tendency to howl.

Mari Mancusi: Boys That Bite
Technically Sunshine can't get killed-because she's immortal. Well, not quite yet. Due to the worst case of mistaken identity with her dark-side-loving twin sister at a Goth club called Club Fang, Magnus, a vampire hottie, went for Sunshine's innocent neck. Now if she doesn't reverse it in time, Magnus will be her blood mate forever and she's doomed to be a blood-gulping, pasty, daylight-hating vampire. That would seriously bite.

And now, after the unfortunate slaying of the vampire leader, Sunshine, her sister Rayne, and Magnus must find the one thing that can solve her problem: the Holy Grail. They wish it were a joke but it's not. It's absolutely necessary that Sunshine gets out of this in time, because somehow she scored the hottest prom date in her school, the mouth-watering Jake Wilder. So she just can't be a vampire for the prom-let alone the rest of eternity.

MARI MANCUSI used to wish she could become a vampire back in high school. But she ended up in another blood sucking profession--journalism--instead. Today she works as a television news producer for the NBC station in Boston and has won two Emmys for her work. As if writing and TV producing weren't enough to keep her busy, Mari also enjoys snowboarding, clubbing, shopping, 80s music, and her favorite guilty pleasure--video games. She lives in the Boston area with her husband and two dogs.
