Poetry Friday: Will

It was only a formality,
My asking you if you love me--
A testing of the waters, if you will.
Patience, dear. I don’t want you
To think that if I say I do
Love you that it is said to force your will.
You see, we share a common thread.
If I say this, then will you dread
that transcendental temple of the will?
A threat to our autonomy,
Or savior from obscurity?
Confess, my love, that if you do, I will.
