Newbery and Dr. Seuss Winners in our Midst!

Ok, now I can officially say that carsharing Really Stinks - because I just found out that two of my awesome Seattle writing friends, Kirby Larson and Laura Kvasnosky, won major ALA awards!!!!!

Kirby is taking home a Newbery Honor for Hattie Big Sky, and Laura is taking home the Theodore Seuss Geisel Beginning Reader Award for Zelda and Ivy: Runaways.

WOOHOO, Kirby and Laura!!!!!!!!!

They just announced it today at the ALA Midwinter Conference in beautiful downtown Seattle, Washington. Just a few miles, just a short car trip away from me. Sniff.

But I am working on Brimstone Soup, which is thisclose to being in some form of "done" (a much smaller woohoo! on that). And I have even more of an incentive to finish now, having met many amicable and interesting editors at this ALA conference.

Needless to say, I am SO excited about going to NY. If you happen to read this and are a children's book person and are going, drop me a line! I'll be at the Writer's Intensive on Friday and the conference on Sat and Sun.
